About NEO

New Educator Orientation (NEO) is the kick-off event of the Teacher Induction Program. This event is open to new hires who are strongly encouraged to attend. Late hires who missed NEO in 2018 are also welcome to attend Tuesday and Wednesday. Attendees are provided a daily stipend of $50/day.

New Hires will:

  • establish relationships with HCPSS staff
  • acquire strategies for creating a positive classroom environment
  • explore curricular resources and HCPSS benefits
  • build commitment for equity, inclusion and diversity
  • deepen understanding of the 2013 Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching
  • gain an overview of the HCPSS Teacher Evaluation Process

August 12/ 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.: ONLY Newly hired special education teachers and current staff transitioning to a position as a special education teacher for the first time, Related Service Providers and Support Teachers (OT, PT, SLP, Vision, Hearing, Adapted PE) attend a full-day training. Lunch is not provided. Feel free to bring a lunch there are nearby food options. Read all communication from the Department of Special Education carefully for more details.

August 13-15/ 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.: All newly hired educators and Gifted & Talented Resource Teachers and Instructional Technology Teachers new to their positions attend New Educator Orientation in addition to newly hired Special Education Teachers and current staff transitioning to Special Education for the first time, as well as newly hired Related Service Providers and Support Teachers (OT, PT, SLP, Vision, Hearing, Adapted PE).

Event Details

Attire is business casual.

Parking is available at Reservoir High as well as Fulton Elementary and Lime Kiln Middle on the shared campus. Please note that the Bus Lot in front of the high school is reserved for presenters, Board of Education members and school system leaders.

Food - There will be a one hour break each day for lunch. Check back early August for additional details.


  • Information about your HCPSS system login, password, email and resources will be sent to the personal email address you provided in the Applitrack system once you are entered into our Workday system.
  • Once you receive your login and reset your password, check your HCPSS email often for news and updates. HCPSS email accounts can be accessed through the Email tab on the HCPSS Staff Hub. New hires may visit the New Educator Canvas Community to access information and resources to get a jump start (HCPSS login required). Additional details about NEO can be found in the NEO Canvas Community. Be sure to join this community as you will then receive announcements and updates about the event.
  • HCPSS laptops will be distributed to eligible staff at designated onboarding sessions. New hires will be emailed information regarding laptop pick-up.
  • Internet access will be available at NEO; new hires should feel free to bring a personal mobile device if they have not yet been issued a laptop by the NEO event.
  • Charging areas are limited.
